What Is Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy originates in ancient Greece but was Scientifically developed over 200 hears ago by a brilliant German physician and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann.
It is a gentle, yet powerful form of medicine which stimulates your immune system into action when your body has been overwhelmed by mental/emotional and physical stresses. By focusing on the causative features of illness, homoeopathy produces long term improvement in health rather than symptomatic relieve. Other than mechanical injuries or conditions requiring surgery, it is used to treat all illnesses – from acute fevers; colic, ear and throat infections – to allergies, such as hay fever, sinusitis, asthma, eczema – to migraines, stomach, bowel and urinary disorders, diabetics, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, hyperactivity, impotence, arthritis, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, infertility, PMT, fibroids, menopause, polycystic ovaries to name but a few.
? Homoeopathic remedies are derived from animal, vegetable and mineral sources in minute doses, which makes them safe from side effects, even during pregnancy
? They may be taken alongside any other medications and can reduce or remove the need for regular or long term medication
? Animals are not used for testing homoeopathic remedies as they are obviously unable to describe any symptoms they may have!
The homoeopathic consultation is quite different from your conventional visit to the GP. Apart from discussing your current symptoms and medical history, you will be asked about your food preferences, sleep patterns, your fears, moods and lifestyle – in fact, all the details necessary in order to build up a complete picture about yourself. This can take between 1 – 1 ½ hours. Although some homoeopaths may prescribe in the consulting rooms, there are times when they may need to analyse the case in more detail in which case a remedy is usually sent in the post.
Remedies may be taken in liquid or tablet form and are very easy to take. The tablets are tiny white sugar pills coated in the remedy which dissolve easily under the tongue; liquid remedies are suspended in alcohol and can be diluted in water. For acute illnesses (short severed symptoms such as colds, stomach upsets etc) you will be asked to take them more often than for long term deep seated chronic conditions.
The second and subsequent consultations are usually made very four weeks lasting around 30 – 45 minutes. Questions will be asked about changes and developments that have occurred since the previous visit.
